Drop-Out Rates

I recently had a question on Ask a Librarian about finding drop-out rates for school districts in Florida. I had to do some digging, and just wanted to pass along the information I found in case you encounter this question.

Florida's Department of Education has a few resources:
  • The Florida School Indicators Report has a downloadable Excel worksheet with recent information, broken up by district.
  • If you want to look up by Legislative District (House and Senate), there is a page on drop-out rates.
  • There is also information on drop-out rates by districts or schools here; district rates go back 10 years.
For national rates (not broken down), the National Center for Education Statistics has a quick summary. This table cites Indicator 20 of The Condition of Education. This indicator has breakdowns by race and ethnicity. Indicator 19 has information on graduation rates by state. Here are some more publications on Dropouts, Completers and Graduation Rate Reports.

The Manhattan Institute has a slightly dated (2001) table of graduation rates by state, including minority breakdowns.

There's also a really nice PDF report called Cities in Crisis: A Special Analytic Report on High School Graduation.

The Education Equality Project has a really quick but nice-looking page on drop-out rates and graduation rates. They also have a map to look at state results.
